The story behind the garden

She planted
a garden in
winter.

Laila started this shop in the hardest year of her life, and it gave the whole family something to do besides worry.

Every blanket, every mug, every gift carries a message to others: you are not alone, and hope can bloom even in the darkest seasons.

October 2024

A hard season.
A choice.

We left Gaza in October 2023. A year later, almost to the month, Laila got the news that started all of this.

We had barely finished putting a life back together in a country we didn't know yet. It was a ridiculous time to start anything. She started anyway.

What we sell

Things you'd
actually use.

There's one rule about what goes in the shop and it's a boring one. It has to be something a person would really use. A blanket that lives on the chair. A mug that gets reached for first. Nothing that sits in a box being meaningful.

Our three kids, Shawkat, Tolen and Zain, have watched the whole thing happen. That was part of the point.

The tatreez

A pattern
from home.

The tatreez tote uses Palestinian cross-stitch, the kind that gets passed down mother to daughter. We put it on a bag because that's where it belongs. On something people use, not behind glass.

We're not making a political point with it. It's a pattern from home, and anyone who wants to carry it is welcome to.

Gardens go through winter. Everything looks dead. But underneath the soil, life is waiting. And when spring comes, everything blooms again.
